No Retreat, No Surrender

Way back in 1986, Brad Keefauver and I formed a life-long bond of bad movie fandom after being inspired by "No Retreat, No Surrender."

I was sure we were the only two who saw the movie (mostly because we were the only two in the theater). But Stephen Colbert referenced it AND showed clips during his recent interview with Tom Delay on "The Colbert Report." Check it out:

More later,

I'll have to check that movie out. My personal vote for the worst movie is "Gangs of New York". At least a dozen people walked out including me. My husband stayed while I munched popcorn in the lobby. He reported that the best part was at the end when the phony rocks went bouncing down the street. What made it so absolutely horrible is that Scorsese was dead serious....I swear he's is on some major drugs.

Hey - what about Waterworld??

I've added the link to Delay's comments on infidelity here for your reading pleasure. If nothing else, he certainly has his own sense of morality.

By the way, if you want a truly hilariously pathetic movie, check out "Tuff Turf" a 1985 blockbuster starring none other than Boston Legal's James Spader (twenty years younger and 50 lbs lighter) as a buttoned down preppie and Kim (escape to witch mountain) Richards as his trampy blue collar girl friend.
Truly a worthy contender in any worst movie category, given the (wasted) acting potential.
Jean Claude did all he could with No Retreat, No Surrender.

See, Suzanne, I draw a line between big-budget turkeys like "Waterworld" and some well-intentioned, low-budget stinker. Still, you are right, "Waterworld" is truly awful. But I didn't hate "Gangs." However, if you want to rent (or walk out of) a big-budget turkey, might I suggest "The Good Shepherd?" Paging Mr. Deniro! I would like my three hours back!

Now Gretc..., I mean, Gatorgal, might be onto something that Brad and I would truly enjoy with "Tuff Turf." It sounds like fun and Mr. Roger Ebert dissed it big time:

Knowing Brad, he has already seen it... Paging Mr. Keefauver...

Mark, Colbert makes cable worth keeping. Thanks for sharing another great clip from the man.

Worst movie: Popeye.

Poor choice for title: DeLay's book

-John Coonen (miss ya, brother!)

Hey, John: Thanks for stopping by! It's good hearing from ya! How's life in ol' Crystal Lake these days? My email is still marksweetwood@aol.com .

"Popeye" is bad, and not in an enjoyable way. We just rented "The Good Shepherd." Yikes. "Babel" is bad, too. "Babble" is more like it. Worst film? Probably "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians."

Just saw - and gave two thumbs up to – "Blood Diamond."
